Dr Angela Ferguson
Director
Director and Acting Executive Director in the Queensland Department of Education, External Relations and Research, Ange brings a unique government, research, and ethics perspective to the AEIOU Board. Her PhD in Clinical Psychology and experience as an Early Intervention Specialist in Queensland Community Health services, means she understands intimately the benefits of early intensive support for children on the autism spectrum. Ange is also a Board Director at the Leukaemia Foundation and volunteer convenor of the Albany Creek Branch of the Leukaemia Foundation (LF).
She has been an active member of LF since 2011, when she started the Teddy’s Day Out fundraiser with local childcare services and primary schools in Brisbane, in partnership with LF volunteer support staff. Ange is passionate about the education of young people in understanding and embracing diversity and difference; the importance of civics and citizenship; and how volunteering can help others less fortunate than themselves.
Ange has a PhD in Clinical Psychology, is an industry fellow with the university of Queensland and partner Investigator on a number of Australian Research Council Linkage Grants and has worked as an early Intervention Specialist with Queensland Health. Since 2015, Ange as been the Director of Research Services in the Department of Education, Queensland, where she leads the ethical and risk review of studies conducted with students and staff in Queensland state schools and administers the only research grant scheme for educational research in Australia – Education Horizon. As part of this role, she has had extensive involvement in committees (including chair and secretariat functions), governance arrangements, budget and finance report, and Human Resource management. She is also a proficient writer and public speaker and presents regularly at university and departmental forums including as a keynote.
